Derabassi, a town of Punjab (India)

Derabassi is a small town situated on the banks of River Ghaggar and on National Highway No 44; linking Chandigarh (UT) which itself is a Union territory with Dehli, the capital of India. It is located in North India as part of Punjab state.

Historical Backdrop- Derabassi was one of the important villages of erstwhile princely state of 'Kalsia' dynasty- a Hindu predominate having the seat of King in Chachrauli which is located in Haryana. Dera bassi were two villages which got merged during the partition of India and Pakistan in 1947. Basically a part of Haryana but was merged into Punjab state in 1966. Recently it has now been upgraded to the Sub Division of District Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA).

Being strategically located just on the boundaries of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana, it has Ammunition magazine of British vintage about five miles away, namely Dapper Village. It is approximately 18 miles from Ambala and 10 miles from Chandigarh and 160 miles from Delhi. The airport is 7 miles away and has direct flights to Bombay and Delhi. It is being upgraded to international standards. This town is also a place of industries and has a focal point of Industries. Nearest Railway station is Ghaggar Junction which is about three miles away.

Derabassi is fast developing town having numerous apartments coming up as the outskirts of Chandigarh have become unaffordable to even upper middle class thus it has become a popular place to settle down being closer to International airport, buses and train services. In future it would be hub for industries as part of Greater Mohali Development Area Authority. It is virtually an education seat having good schools and one college and four professional courses i.e. Engineering, Medicine, Dental and Nursing colleges. It has a population of about 17000 and 3585 household

units, according to census carried out in 2007. Demographically, it has 80% Hindus and 18% Sikhs and 1-2% Jains, Muslims, and others. Christians are just negligible having about five houses and population not more than 50 persons including children. There are 8-9 Hindu temples, 5-6 Gurdwaras (worship place for Sikhs), 3-4 Mosques and only one built up Church, namely Derabassi Church.

Church is located on old Kalka road next to SBP Housing Park. Dera Bassi. It is just 70 M from NH 44, Chandigarh- Dehli. It is visible ( Cross and Bell) from the road .

The church was dedicated to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 23rd December 2007. No funds and donations were received. It is growing church and needs your regular prayers so that God leads more believers to the Church and it becomes the beacon for future times.
